Symptoms
iPhone 3G with iOS 4.2.1, Basebend version 05.15.04 and Bootrom 5.09 No Service after jailbreak and unlock.
Solution
Jailbreak and update baseband to ipad baseband ( 06.15.00 ) using redsnow 0.9.6b5 , then unlock using ultrasnow.

Step by Steps
Open Redsnow 0.9.6b5
Click on the Browse button and choose iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw
Redsn0w will now process and identify your firmware file
Once Redsn0w has successfully identified the firmware file, click on Next button to patch the firmware.
Choose Cydia and Install iPad baseband from the given options. Click YES to close the warning message.
Power off phone and connect to pc
Now put your iPhone in DFU mode. How To? click here
Wait while Redsn0w fetches the iPad baseband files for your iPhone and patch the firmware.
Now you should have fully jailbroken and unlockable iPhone 3GS/3G with 06.15.00 baseband version.
Power on phone
Open Cydia
Tap on the Manage tab at the bottom followed by tap on Sources section
Now tap on the Edit button on the top-right of Cydia and then tap on the Add button on the top-right. Enterhttp://repo666.ultrasn0w.com as Cydia/APT URL and tap on Add Source button.
Now wait while Cydia downloads and updates its repository list
Once you are done with adding Ultrasn0w repo, click on the Search tab at the bottom and type Ultrasn0w in the search field.
Tap on Install button on the top-right to install Ultrasn0w unlock on your device.
Reboot your device once installation has been completed.
And Viola now your iphone can use on any unofficial carrier...,
